Best new Travel Gadgets for 2011

As a traveler and a blogger you can be sure of one thing. I love travel gadgets and I am sure I’m not alone in that. Last month more than 140,000 attendees descended on the Las Vegas Consumer Electronics Show to see the latest gadgets, gizmos, apps, and high tech fun stuff. While some of the gadgets were what you would expect such as iPads, phones, and laptops – there were a few surprises.

Let’s start with the iPad though. It’s hard to believe that the iPad debuted less than a year ago. These things have taken the world by storm. Holding everything from novels, films, maps, and yes..you can check your email on it too. The iPad is not alone though..

Motorola Xoom Android Tablet

At this event there were more than 80 competing models launched. Experts say that by 2014 20% of all Americans will have a tablet. The model that Apple should most worry about? The Motorola Zoom which runs on the Android platform.

Sony Bloggie Camcorders

Travelers love to take photos too and there were quite a few new and innovative cameras at the show. What was the hottest camera? Well, people seemed to be pretty impressed by the Sony Bloggie which allows travelers to take 3-D videos.

And of course, what every traveler worth his or her salt knows is that travel gadgets need to be multi-purpose. If you are going to carry something with you, it’s nice to have it do more than one thing. The coolest I’ve seen so far is the Eton Raptor which is a flashlight, radio, clock, bottle opener, barometer and altimeter all in one.

Polaroid took the dual purpose idea to a new level with their camera sunglasses. Not only can you take photos with them, you can upload the photos instantly. Lady Ga-Ga is the face behind the glasses now, but hopefully soon, they will be available for us too.
