Royale Parc Hotel Tagaytay Review

Tagaytay is kind of like a second home to our family—picnics at People’s Park, dinner at Leslie’s, and sneaking out at dawn with my cousins to watch the fog disappear just as the sun rises. I visited Tagaytay only recently for the opening of the new Royale Parc Hotel property in the area. Suddenly, these minuscule memories felt familiar all over again.
Royale Parc Hotel (hotel info) is just beside the Emilio Aguinaldo Highway, and is accessible not only by private vehicles, but also via public transportation such as the Nasugbu-bound bus from Manila. If you want to go around Tagaytay from the property, there are several jeepneys bound to Olivarez/Rotonda (the city center) and also to Nasugbu, where the beaches are.
Upon arrival at the hotel, the staff immediately attended to our luggage. They gave us welcome drinks and inquired how our trip went. It might be a small gesture, but it is a sincere one nonetheless. After finishing our drinks, we got our room keys and headed to our rooms to freshen up for a celebratory dinner with Royale Parc Hotels and Resorts executives, as well as other media guests.
Royale Parc Hotel Tagaytay currently has 44 well-appointed rooms, and each one is unique since no two rooms have the same design.
Wood and steel furnishings complement the natural aesthetic of the hotel, while the use of recycled designs in the rooms underscores its sustainability commitment. Speaking of which, an actual pine tree situated in the middle of one concrete corner inside the hotel added a tasteful touch of design to the space.
The highlights of the rooms are the high ceiling and the sliding door of the bathroom. Rooms also have a balcony with a view of the pool area and outdoor Jacuzzi.
The hotel has an in-house Filipino restaurant called Dekada, which is from the group behind SumoSam. Dekada specializes in presenting heirloom recipes served with ‘history.’
The Lumpiang Palabok, or the Filipino version of spring rolls wrapped in rice paper with grilled mahi-mah—was inspired by Antonio Pigafetta’s first account of the Spaniards’ visit to the Philippines when they were served roast mahi-mahi with rice wrapped in leaves.
There’s also Duweto ng Kinilaw, a serving of tanigue ceviche in coconut milk and a serving of shrimp in vinegar with mango. Kinilaw was a pre-colonial way of cooking, especially popular in the Visayan region.
For those looking for comfort food, Royale Parc Hotel has ‘Melchora’, Dekada’s version of chicken binakol named after one of the most recognized women in Philippine Revolution. Guests can also enjoy a hearty bulalo named La Solidaridad, a newspaper critical of the Spanish government in the country.
Dekada’s main dishes involve a short history lesson on the ‘Sons of the Revolution’, which includes Del Pila’ (chicken inasal), Aguinaldo (twice-cooked adobo), and Pinoy-style oven-roasted chicken Ponce.
The piece-de-resistance is named after the country’s National Hero, Jose Rizal: Sizzling bulalo steak made with Tagaytay’s quality beef.
There’s a pool in the property where kids can frolic around as adults relax at the lounge chairs nearby. Other features include a fitness center, free parking and airport transfers.
The hotel also has four function rooms and one main ballroom that can fit any corporate, government, association and social events. The ballroom, situated on the third floor, offers panoramic views of Taal Lake.
Since it is an old property, the hotel has retained a bit of nostalgia just like how the owner remembered it from its original structure. When it was time to leave, I was a wee bit wistful from all the time my family and I spent in Tagaytay and the memories we made there. Maybe I’ll come back sooner than later.
