Manila, Philippines — AirAsia, the World’s Best Low-Cost Airline for 11 years welcomed its maiden flight from Manila to Bacolod on October 26, Sunday.
Airline passengers, guests, and invited media flying to Bacolod joined the celebration, received special gifts, and were treated to a Masskara performance at NAIA terminal 4 before boarding their flights.
The aircraft was greeted with a traditional water cannon salute upon landing at 9:40am at Bacolod-Silay International Airport. Guests and VIPs on board were welcomed at the airport by Bacolod City Mayor Evelio Leonardia, followed by a short program attended by AirAsia Philippines CEO Ricardo Isla, Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Ray Berja, Chief Commercial Officer Gilbert Simpao, Airport Manager Martin Terre, and Attorney Jomar Castillo.
“We are excited to celebrate this milestone and to paint the Negros Island skies red. AirAsia’s presence in the region will make air travel more affordable not just for Negrenses but for everyone who wants to explore this part of the country.”
Mayor Leonardia also shared that it was also the perfect time that AirAsia has landed in Bacolod just in time for the 40th Masskara Festival; the Ruby Year.
AirAsia also took part in activities at the Masskara Festival including the Street and Arena Dance Competition and the Masskara Queen Pageant and Coronation Night.
AirAsia services Manila to Bacolod with three flights daily.
