Starting July 29 to August 10, 2009, Intramuros History Town formerly known as WoW Philippines will showcase the Wonders of Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon and Palawan.

The Department of Tourism will launch tourism promotion that will showcase MIMAROPA Region at Intramuros: History Town Philippines with Secretary Ace Durano and Senator Richard Gordon as the guests of honor on July 28, 2009.

The MIMAROPA region composed of the island provinces of Mindoro Occidental, Mindoro Oriental, Marinduque, Romblon and Palawan, with DOT’s Regional Director Louella Jurilla, leads the collaboration of efforts with the Governors, Mayors and tourism business movers to package the elements of an enriching travel experience when visiting the region.

The Philippine Department of Tourism (DoT) opened Tuesday the WOW Philippines month-long tourism activities in Intramuros that will highlight the arts and crafts of southwest Mindanao.

The Deparment of Tourism Region 12 will showcase the region’s cultures, its people, dances, cuisine, arts, music, and festivals.

Mindanao Arts and Crafts

Mindanao weavers, mostly from Maguindanao, Marawi City, Lanao provinces, and Cotabato City, will present – to the tourists’ delight, Habing Mindanao, an indigenous weaves that speak, in its entirety, the diverse cultures of the peoples in the South. Read the full story

Senator Richard J. Gordon today lauded the revival of Intramuros as the country’s history town, showcasing historical events and cultures from the different regions in the country.

Gordon, chairman of the Senate tourism panel, made the commendation as the Department of Tourism (DOT) and Philippine Tourism Authority (PTA) revived Wow Philippines program featuring Intramuros as the country’s history town.

“We are happy that the government has pushed through with the re-opening of Intramuros History Town in time for the Christmas season. The Walled City used to be known throughout the world as one of the best cities in Asia,” he said.

“Today, we see the continuation of our efforts to revive Intramuros by making it a central showcase of our country’s rich culture and heritage,” he added. Read the full story
