Puka means hole and while you may have thought that it is a particular kind of sea creature that lives in the puka shell, that’s not right. A puka shell is simply a small shell with a hole in it. Also known as Yapak Beach, this area was popularly known as Puka Beach due to abundance of puka shells bleached white under the mighty sun.

Puka Beach
So a puka shell necklace is a necklace made from shells with holes in them. The reason I am telling you this is because when I was up at Puka Beach on Boracay a few weeks ago, I heard an American girl ask her boyfriend “What does a wild puka look like?” Read the full story

For those who want to get away from the tourist crowds at White Beach and see what tropical paradise really means. These are my favorite secret spots on Boracay Island. Don’t tell!

Cagban Beach
Cagban Beach. (Treasure Chest Beach) is a calm and peaceful place where the water meets amazing limestone caves. More than a few stories of pirates, Spanish gold, and treasure being hidden here so don’t be surprised if you run into some local kids digging in the sand. They’re not looking for clams, they’re looking for treasure! LOL Read the full story

If you are looking for a great place to just laze around, Boracay Island should be on your list. Boracay is 7km long and 1km wide at its narrowest point but even if this is just a relatively small island, theres so much things to do in the island that is once considered as the “World Best Beach Destination“.

Taj Guesthouse
Boracay’s two primary tourism beaches, White Beach and Bulabog Beach, are located on opposite sides of the island’s narrow central area. White Beach faces westward and Bulabog Beach faces eastward. The island also has several other beaches. Its largest villages or barangays are Manoc-Manoc,Balabag and Yapak. Be warned though, your map of the island may not serve you so well as they only serve as a general guide, the villages is mostly connected by a confusing network of paths. Read the full story

Jona shares her photo that was taken in Boracay.. “handsdown my ultimate favorite beach destinations.. What with the pristine white sand and very relax atmosphere.. I will never get tired visiting this island…” – Jona

Jona Alforque in Boracay
My fave restaurant in Boracay is Gasthof for it’s ribs and breakfast sets when I splurge and Smoke’s when I’m on scrimp mode.. Real Coffee for calamansi muffins and Jonah’s choco banana and peanut butter shake…
I love island hopping and paraw sailing too…plus massage on the beach offered by locals, but what I enjoy most is reading while sipping pina colada or any fruit shakes along the shore..
I’m about to visit Boracay again this April 17-19 and choose to stay at Le Soliel De Boracay Resort for it’s proximity to D’mall and happening places…

Congratulations Jona , you just won a copy of Jessica Zafra’s newest book Twisted 8 1/2

A couple of weeks back, I visited Boracay with Shellaise – an officemate and fellow blogger. As a first time visitor on the Island, Shellaise shares her short and yet so inviting tale of her first-time trip to the Paradise called Boracay. Read on….
Gray clouds and moist.. A gloomy morning greeted our Boracay arrival. Technically the downpour begins when May ends so it didn’t come as a surprise, I arrived expecting it. I must admit, it suited my melancholy mood and lacking sleep didn’t help much either.
We got to the hotel and check in wasn’t till another couple of hours, again this did not help brighten my mood.

Paradise Found
We decided to tour the length of station 2 where the white sand held semblance to rock salts, all the way to station 1 where the rock salts seemed to have been pulverized into fine powder -it makes me wonder why that is… Read the full story

Are you looking for a secluded tropical beach without the crowds?
If you are searching for a great romantic and adventure getaway, Let me share to you another tropical beach I just discovered a couple of weeks back.
On my second day in Boracay, I planned to visit Carabao Island in Romblon – a beautiful island fronting Boracay’s famous Puka Beach but few minutes after reserving an outrigger boat to tour us around, we were informed that we cant proceed to Carabao Island due to unexpected high waves brought by the southwest monsoon.

Ariel’s Point wooden Diving Board
I then asked the boatmen where to go for Island hopping and he recommended a place called Ariel’s Point which is formerly called Batason Point. A friend asked me, Why would I go somewhere else if I’m already in the Island Paradise? Well, the question is valid and I know there’s plenty of things to do in Boracay but Ive been to this place numerous times already and I just want to explore new activities near the island. The Caticlan airport reopens in September for bigger aircrafts, following the order of the Department of Transportation and Communication (DOTC) to commence initial phase of runway rehabilitation, which involves contouring of the bordering hill.
The DOTC issued the order to the Caticlan International Airport Development Corp. (CIADC), a private consortium which was granted the 25-year airport upgrade project.
Recent flight incidents in Caticlan prompted the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) to prohibit larger aircrafts of Philippine Airlines, Cebu Pacific and Zest Airways from using Boracay’s closest gateway. At present, the airport is limited to one way landing or take-off for smaller planes.

“With the wind factor and the hill obstructing the airstrip, pilots perform an abrupt maneuver to a steep degree of ascent for larger planes. Passenger safety is our priority in rehabilitating the runway,” revealed Secretary Ace Durano, representing the Department of Tourism (DOT), one of the board members of CAAP.
“The CAAP, concerned government agencies and private sector are consolidating all efforts to complete the runway upgrade. We have been assured that it will be fully operational in September, the start of Boracay’s peak season,” added the tourism chief. Read the full story
