Located in northern France, Paris is found on the river Seine and is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world, with over 30 million foreign visitors coming each year. Paris is known for its wonderful restaurants and casual sidewalk cafes which align its city streets.

Eiffel Tower

In addition to the food, there are a few other do not miss attractions for you to see on your visit. Probably the most identifiable attraction in Paris would be the Eiffel Tower. Built in 1882 by Gustave Eiffel, the tower was erected with the aid of over 300 steel workers and took about two years to complete. The Eiffel Tower weights 7,315 tons and towers 1050 feet over the city.

Next on our list would be the Louvre. The Louvre is one of the world’s finest art museums and inside you will find an immense variety of art, as well as great lessons in art history and culture. This is also the home of the famous Mona Lisa. You may want to schedule an entire day to experience the Louvre as you will find it to be quite expansive. The Louvre is arguably the most popular destination in Paris and the crowds can be thick, so make sure you have enough time to take it all in.

Next up is the Notre Dame Cathedral. This historical building is a gothic Roman Catholic Cathedral and is located in the eastern part of Paris. Notre Dame is one of the very first buildings to use arched exterior supports or what are also known as the “flying buttress.” The cathedral suffered some damage during the French Revolution; however a major restoration of the cathedral was performed during the 19th century which more or less returned Notre Dame to its previous state. You can explore Notre Dame are if you want to search for budget accommodation in Paris.

These are just a few of the major attractions one should not miss when visiting Paris. There are far too many places to see in Paris and I will post it in the next few articles. In addition to the sites mentioned though, you may want to research Champs-Élysées, the Arc de Triomphe and the Sainte Chapelle.
