Manila Central Post Office Building : Exploring Manila
Cultural and Heritage Sites, Philippines — By melo on January 29, 2009 3:00 amIt was my day off when I visited the Manila Post office last week to pick up the package I bought from Ebay. It took almost two weeks for them to send me the notice that my package has arrived, Oh well, at least it didn’t get lost.
Since most of my travel gears, travel books, camera lenses, cook books and other travel stuff are purchased from eBay, It had to go to the Manila Post Office for Customs and duties purposes. I’m not complaining, I actually enjoy walking around this part of Manila since its near Quiapo, Binondo, Intramuros, SM Manila and Luneta.
Manila Central Post Office Facade
The Manila Post office Building is considered one of the most beautiful buildings in the Philippines. Located in the district of Intramuros, at the bank of the Pasig River. The front of the building faces the Liwasang Bonifacio plaza (now known as Plaza Lawton).
Post World War II Photo
It’s neoclassical architecture was designed by Filipino architect Juan Marcos de Guzman Arrelano and was originally built in 1926. The original structure was severely damaged during the bombing of Manila during World War II but was reconstructed in 1946 preserving it’s original design.
National Historical Institute Marker
This building serves as the head office of PhilPost where all local and international mails and parcels are sorted before being distributed to it’s regional hubs.
Greek inspired Ionic Columns
Stamp collectors also frequently visiting the Manila Post Office to buy latest stamp issues from the philatelic section. They also sell different types of stamps like Mint, Cancelled, Setenant, Souvenir sheets, and Sheetlets.
Ground Floor : Bureau of Customs Office
The Manila Central Post Office also hosts a yearly event where old stamps and mailing equipments are exhibited. Visiting the building’s interior will give you a totally different impression. Just like the building, the equipments are old but impressive.

I felt that I was sent back in time. Unlike the post offices in other Asian countries, the Manila Post Office was left out when it comes to modern architectual design, but this is not necessarily a bad thing.

usually d na nakakaabot yung mga mail at package galing sa labas if through the philippine post service dadaan yung finorward ng mga mailing service tulad ng US post service..yung mga kartero kasi eh kinukuha yung package at binubuksan…
i have a package expected to arrive at my address in iloilo by the end of february from the US..kaso sa mga na search ko sa net..parang d na ako sigurado na makakarating sakin yung mail…puro mga reklamo sa d nila pagtanggap ng kanilang mail

They use that building as prop palace of Pontius Pilate. With the speed of e-mail, snail mail will be soon phased out, and that building will be just an archeological curiosity. You made a good job of preserving its image. Wonderful.

hey guys, i am also one of the victim of this mbagal at bulok na sistema ng post office sa atin… Ive sent my letter last nov. 19 and up to now wala pa din which is december 14 na. So, I called this number (+63 2) 928 4717 (for letters and documents) +63 2 928 1667 (for parcels) Quezon City post office. and another one is +63 2 854 0084 I guess this is the main post office. So, knina my cuzn received the notice from post office na nandun na sa knila last nov. 30 pa. Hope this would help…
i sent my documents (6 pages only) to Canada via express mail which costs almost 1,000.00 php. i was told that it will arrive Canada in 10 days. today is the 10th day. i decided to track it to make sure however, the PHILPOST website’s not working at all.
has anyone ever had this kind of problem especially when i mailed it EXPRESS? i’m just worried now if my mail would even get there within this month. It’s a very important document and I am trying to finish this whole process within this month. With this delay, i cannot even proceed to the next step of my application.

Ilang taon na bang ganito lagi ang problema sa post office, nawawalang package. Sa customs ganoon din. Sa empleyado pa lang nila makikita mo na kung gaano kapal ng mukha, flaunting their jewelries while working inside the customs.
If you’re planning to send a package or mail, use a courier service like fedex or dhl for international. xend, jrs express, or air21 for local. Why? Because instead of getting a good deal from ebay, you’ll just end up paying more because of customs taxes or worse, you wouldn’t receive the package at all.
ilang beses na akong nag-send ng letters,cards and package small bubble envelop!!! hindi nakakarating sa pamilya ko!!! wag na kayong mag-advertise ng MURA AT MABILIS kung hindi nman inaaksyonan reklamo ng mga tao!

im really getting paranoid with our damn post system in this country.
i thought things are fine when me and my gf started sending letters to each other.
all was fine and dandy a year ago
now her letters to me hasnt reached me at all.
before i get so pissed since some of her small packages for me arrive in my house tampered,
either with cuts to the envelope or very obvious pokes by some sharp object.
so i started asking the mailman why are my letters like this and he said he doesnt know…yeah right!
but, i can actually live with those tampering as long the letters/packages arrive in my mailbox.
i have been waiting for 3 letters for almost a month now and not a single one has arrived yet.
first time this thing happened to us was some months ago.
now here we go again.
i mean, can the philpost staff really stomach such a thing that they are doing???
thats what you will feed your family with, the things you steal from hard working people???
or no wait, you use that for drinking after work!
this thing has been going on since my mom was younger and my grandma sends us letters and we recieve them tampered.
(well, thats for another story)

a friend of mine from US sent me a very important document. It was sent July 5, 2011 and up to now.. August 7, 2011. It hasn’t reach our local post office yet. I’ve asked them for 4 times now and they said its not yet there.. I hope people/workers from Central post office in Manila, would address our concerns here..Please..that paper in that mail is my life. If you are not doing good on your job, you are depriving people of their opportunities..so please..let us all be honest!
