Manila is all set to witness rocking performance from Cirque Mother Africa this April 19-22, 2012. The much awaited event will take place at Newport Theatre Resorts World Manila. Some filipinos have seen this event in the past too, but this time they are all set to enjoy a rocking show in Manila.

Cirque Mother (CircusMama) Africa Manila

The show will last for a minimum of two hours. The event will consist of the ever interesting African traditional music followed by African dance as well as performances. As many as 40 artists are expected to participate in this wonderful event. The artists are from across nine countries in Africa which includes Ethiopia, Ivory Coast, South Africa, Tanzania, Zimbabwe as well as Guinea.

The major attraction of this event is that even though the artists are from different nationalities in Africa, they will fuse together as a single community in bringing up the voice of Africa which is definitely going to reflect upon the unity of Africa. All the performing artists highly skilled artists, they are either dancers or musicians or singers or a combination of all the three.

CIRQUE MOTHER AFRICA Manila 2012

The troupe is reaching Manila after their world tours in major countries across Europe and also Australia. The troupe will perform in Singapore on April 12th after which they will be hosting their event in Manila. The event will also showcase a circus show with ringmaster dressed in a black top hat followed by tumbling clowns with the funny white paint on their faces as well as round red noses which will make the audience cheer with much excitement.

The show will also include experts spinning through the air where as human contortionists will form different shapes with their bodies which will be characterised by traditional masks, drums, beads as well as costumes that will give the audience a truly African atmosphere.

The circus programme will showcase some of best plays as well as acts that they have performed trough out the world during the past five years. Some of the notable highlights that the audience can look out for include foot juggling, magic as well as bounce juggling.

The most important attraction of the event that is going to take place in Manila is the performance by Mama Africa School of artists which will be led by Winston Ruddle who is the producer. More than just providing the audiences with entertainment, Mama Africa is all set to showcase the African culture. A part of the income from the tickets being sold for the Mama Africa Tour events will be used for the developmental projects of Africa.

Mama Africa draws its inspiration from a combination of a special mixture of the traditional African circus followed by modern circus as well as impressive acrobatics. The event will also witness the blending of live music and choreography that will be deeply rooted to the African Culture and tradition.

“Been there, done that“, is probably a statement you wouldn’t hear from seasoned travelers. A real traveler looks at a destination with a different perspective with less expectation and they pretty much look for an entirely different experience. When exploring new paths, I seek for something new to learn by talking to locals to know more about their culture and help me re-discover the destinations old glory.

Matabungkay’s famous Floating Tent or Balsa

Much like food, a better way to appreciate it is to know its basic recipe and know how an heirloom recipe was passed on from one generation to another. Last weekend, I accepted an overnight stay invitation from Matabungkay Beach Hotel last week together with fellow travel bloggers and friends from the dailies for the launch of their new website, facebook pages and logo.

Adult swimming pool

It was already my third time in the resort but my previous visits didn’t gave me a chance to checkout their amenities and know more about the resorts history and background. It was raining hard when we arrived but the warm welcome we had from the resorts management and staff is priceless.

Beach Volleyball

Set against a backdrop of the beautiful exclusive Beach that is away from beach vendors, Matabungkay Beach Hotel is a unique tropical haven, offering a wide range of fun and leisure facilities. The perfect blend of 3 star resort amenities with the extraordinary beauty of the natural garden landscape covered by century old trees, together with friendly and famous filipino hospitality, ensure that the Matabungkay Beach Hotel experience really is a sensational indulgence.

Cocktail Party by the Beach

Upon arrival in the resort, we headed to the resorts Club House to meet Mr. Robert Crespo – the resorts Marketing Head and while having an ala carte “al fresco” lunch, we shared stories as if were having a reunion with old friends. After lunch, we went to our designated rooms to freshen up and prepare for our scheduled massage.

Designated bonfire area

The room we had is huge and clean and each standard room can accommodate up to three guests. The resort offers 57 combinations of Superior and Executive Guest Rooms, 12 Suites and 16 Villas Hotel Every room is air-conditioned with private bathroom and spacious private verandah. Suites and executive rooms have hot and cold baths, mini bars and cable television.

Conference room

They recently launched their pool bar and karaoke / music room and along with these new amenities, they also have swimming pools, indoor games (dart boards and billiard tables), outdoor mega-sized chessboard, volleyball court, tennis court, indoor kids’ corner, spas, steam baths, water sports, floating bamboo rafts, Fortune Island Adventure, and other services.

Inside Calatagan Suite

After series of renovations, the resort is now fully equipped with new amenities offering the same relaxing feel that families have been enjoying for over three decades.

Kayaking in Matabungkay

After the relaxing massage, our group gathered at the beach activity area for the cocktails and to meet the resort owner Mrs. Charley Antonio and staff and the band members from the Bloomfields.

Grandma Burger

I had a nice conversation with the resorts General Manager – Rico Violeta. His vision is to bring back the resorts old glory and to invite new visitors to experience the resort and its new offerings.

Matabungkay Beach Front

Being a resort that already existed even before Boracay became a destination of its own, the resort unlike the later was able to maintain its good reputation and with its glorious past, the resort became a part of each family’s tradition.

Ube Halaya

Back in the 80′s, the resort was a favorite hangout of Manila’s who’s who, foreign travelers and local celebrities. One interesting fact is that the resorts club house was designed by our national artist – Leandro Locsin.

Matabungkay is for Happy Campers

As part of the resorts relaunch, the resorts target according to Mrs. Charley Antonio is to offer a wider range of activities for their guests and to maintain the same relaxing experience that they have been offering for the past three decades.

Sautéed squid

More than its amenities and history, the resorts greatest asset is its hospitable people. Families and group of friends who visits to the resort keeps on coming back to see familiar faces and enjoy their visit much like their own vacation homes.

Resort Cottages

The cocktails was followed by a dinner while listening to the concert. Sponsored by San Miguel Beer, the resort hosted a concert to officially welcome the summer season, the resort offered a beach concert featuring the Bloomfields. Its my first time to listen to this band and after couple of songs, I became a certified fan… A huge fan!

Superior Family Bedroom

The next day, we were greeted by a beautiful morning and perfect beach climate with a blue sky. After having breakfast, Joie B. Oliveros – the resorts Marketing Manager toured us around the property to checkout the amenities. Before leaving the resort, we had lunch and a short meet-and-greet with the resort owner. Our visit maybe short but its truly worth remembering! If ill be given a chance to go back, I surely will!

The Cogon Bar

Although the town has too many resorts to choose from, Matabungkay Beach Hotel is the only resort that offers best in class dining facilities serving local and international cuisine, grilled local dishes, cocktails, and total entertainment.

The Bloomfields Concert – Matabungkay Beach Hotel

The Matabungkay Beach Resort and Hotel is located in Lian, Batangas. It is about a two and a half-hour drive from Manila. To get there, you’ll have to go through South Superhighway, then to Tagaytay via Sta Rosa. From there you head on to Nasugbu and then turn right to Lian.

Everyone, from couples to families setting forth on a weekend jaunt, to corporations working to build team bonds, will find bliss in Matabungkay. Affordable rates and easy accessibility make the place a top destination for families, corporate outings or barkadas.

Earlier, I attended a book signing event in SM North Edsa The Block. This time its not for a travel book, Its for Jenni Epperson’s Fashion + Food Book that she recently launched. I’m not into fashion but I occasionally visit Jenni Eppersons blog to checkout her recipes and fantastic food shots. I’m also into food pornography so it follows that I visit fellow food pornographers blog once in a while.

Jenni Epperson at SM North Edsa The Block

Jenni Epperson’s blog is all about fashion and food thats why when she had an opportunity to write a book, she made it sure that it will be all about fashion and food.

Jenni Epperson’s Book Signing at SM North The Block

During the event, Jenni answered all the questions from fellow bloggers who attended the event. I admire her simplicity and sincerity in everything she says. She’s really good example of an ideal modern women who believes that there’s always a better way to do things.. No wonder she excels on everything she does.

Q & A with Pinoy Bloggers

“Fashion + Food: Entertaining at Home in Style” is a book that shows how a simple meal look special. The book showcases her food plating talent and her ability to choose perfect color combination for everything that we see on top of her table.

Imagine Cool Climate, Beautiful Crowd, Inspiring works of art, Overflowing Booze, Fantastic Music and a natural amphitheater venue that is 250 meters above sea level – These are some of the reasons why you should experience the Malasimbo Art and Music Festival in Puerto Galera.

Our very own Joey Ayala

Together with the members of the press, we arrived in Puerto Galera last friday afternoon to attend the press conference before the opening of the festival. During the Dialogue with the Press, DOT Region 4 Director Louie Jurilla, Mayor Hubert Christopher Dolor, Asec Eugene Kaw, Hubert d’Aboville and Joe Bataan were present to welcome us at the Tamaraw Beach Resort.

Malasimbo 2012 Press Conference with DOT Region 4 Director Louie Jurilla, Asec Eugene Kaw, Mayor Hubert Christopher Dolor, Hubert d’Aboville and Joe Bataan

Right after the press conference, we went to Tamaraw falls for a short sight-seing tour then we headed to Marco Vincent Resort where we stayed during the event coverage.

Similar to Coachella of California, Woodstock of Newyork and Zoukout of Singapore, Puerto Galera in Oriental Mindoro has its own Malasimbo Music and Arts Festival that features music, art installations and motion performances.

Tamaraw Falls

So what makes this festival unique? You can feel the freedom in every beat of the drums while enjoying the fantastic mountain setting and the overflowing artistry makes this event one of a kind. With a natural amphitheater, the venue’s challenging terrain is being turned into a Musical Paradise by local and international artists.

Art Installations

Within the area, you can find beautiful lighted art installations, food stalls and Booze stations where you can get a bottle of Manila Beer. One interesting architecture that was built in the area is the Mangyan Village Replica where a stage was also installed mainly for alternate performances from participating Music Artists and DJ’s.

Artist from Japan

Part of the local governments new campaign “Puerto Galera, the heart of Asia,” is the promotion of Malasimbo Music and Arts Festival as one of the key festivals of the town. Mayor Hubert believes that with these type of events, tourists will have more reason to visit Puerto Galera which recently included in the list of “The most Beautiful Bays in the World”.

Back in 2009, I was sad when MV Doulos announced that it will be their last visit as the ship will end its mission and it will be turned over to its new owner, a Singaporean firm named BizNaz Resources International Pte Ltd. Good thing a new floating bookstore continued the mission of bringing hope through its bigger ship called MV Logos Hope.

Floating Library in Cebu (photos courtesy of http://www.gbaships.org/)

After the transfer of ownership of MV Doulos, most of the volunteers and staff eventually transfered to a bigger floating library which started sailing last February of 2009.

The M/V Logos Hope is operated by the non-profit German charitable Christian Organization GBA (Good Books for All) Ships, the floating book shop is the fourth ship in the Logos line up. The Logos Hope is twice bigger than its predecessors, about twice the size of the wrecked Logos II and better than other ships operated by the organization when it comes to providing comfort, convenience and a quality cruise to visitors, guests as well as the crew of the ship.

The most attractive offering of the MV Logos is the book fair, popular as the Floating Logos book fair, with a collection of more than 7,000 different titles. Many humanitarian activists and people interested in social service take part in the journey to sell books as well as perform charity activities. M/V Logos Hope docks in a port for approximately 2 weeks in each port. The ship goes from port to port carrying the book fair with it.

MV Logos Hope now in Manila

Last Thursday, the M/V Logos Hope reached Manila and docked at the South Harbor Pier 15 at the back of the historic Manila Hotel. To entertain visitors and guests and sell great books, Logos Hope announced that it will dock for 25 days at the Pier. Knowledge, Hope and Help is the aim of the vessel and wherever the ship goes, the needy and the destitute get sighs of happiness and hope.

Manila is reported to be the 61st port the ship has docked at. Having been a host to over 2.5 million people across 60 ports, the Logos Hope has earned respect in all the 39 countries it visited. Books in the MV Logos Fair include those from the following categories:

• Sports
• Arts
• Economics
• Science
• Cooking
• Hobbies
• Philosophy
• Medicine
• Languages
• Fiction
• General reference

There are supposedly more than 500,000 books falling into the categories mentioned above, as a whole. According to Gian Walser, the Managing Director of the floating library, the ship is more than an international traveling community.

The Book Fair

The Floating Book fair that the ship holds generates money for the poor and needy and the revenue from the Fair is used for building orphanages, providing computer training, for awareness and educational programmes for people with HIV, offering free health checkups and for donating to charity funds.

The commitment of the MV Logos Hope crew members is really admirable as they have worked hard for the poor and the needy. The ship provides education to 40 children as well. The M/V Logos Hope would be open from Tuesdays till Saturdays and visitors are permitted from 10 AM till 9:30 PM. The Worlds biggest floating library also works on Sundays from 1 PM to 9:30 PM and will be at Manila till March 13.

Children of age 12 or below don’t require an entry pass; if they are accompanied by adults and the entry pass for age 12 or more costs P20. There will also be various cultural events on the ship on February 24, 26, March 4 and March 10. Reportedly, M/V Logos Hope’s next stop will be in Subic after leaving Manila. After maintenance and repairs, the ship will be leaving for Indonesia from Subic.

My flight to the Queen City of the South was re-scheduled but I was not that disappointed… Why? Coz I finally got a chance to visit SMX for this years Travel and Tour Expo. After finishing several tasks for my Social Media client, I finally headed to SMX to meet some friends and checkout for some great travel deals.

Incredible India Booth

India has a nice long space near Malaysia Truly Asia Booth but their booth is not that crowded earlier when I arrived. If India is also on your bucket list, then visit their booth and get free maps for your future reference.

Guam Booth at the Travel Expo Philippines

Just like last year, Guam’s booth is always crowded. Visit their photo booth and get the change to join their Facebook online promotions. Everyone enjoyed watching their cultural and musical presentation. Good Job Team Guam, I hope I can visit your beautiful country someday:)

Guam Cultural Dancers

Guam may not have the best designed booth but their booth is definitely a crowd drawer. One thing missing in other booths is Cultural Presentations just like what Guam has been presenting for the past years.

Cookie Chua Performing at the Travel Expo

Unlike last year, the stage is now in the corner of the hall near the food stalls. If you are tired of roaming around and not finding anything, take some rest and tryout some food offerings from food related exhibitors in the hall.

Hong Kong Booth

Hong Kong booth is just too plain for me but they have so many flyers, maps and travel guides that you can grab for free if in case you are planning to visit Hong Kong soon:) Ocean Park also has small booth with their maskot and a clown where you can have souvenir photos.

Korea Tourism Organization Booth

Korea has a huge booth but its located at the not so crowded part of the hall. Most people visiting the booth are just interested watching the KPop music videos available in a flat screen TV located in front of their booth.

Japan Booth at the Travel Tour Expo

Japan Booth offers free cup of tea and free Japanese sweets to those who are willing to fall in line:)

Malaysia Truly Asia Booth

This years Malaysia booth is definitely the best designed booth among the countries who participated in this years travel fair. Apart from their beautifully designed booth, they also have a unique cultural presentation for visitors.

Travel Club Booth

Among the retailers who participated in the Travel and Tour Expo, Travel Club has the best designed booth with a lounge that looks like a first class seat in a world class airline… amazing booth:) BTW. They also sell bags with huge discounts.

Wonderful Indonesia Booth

Indonesia’s booth is perfectly situated near the center but it looks like its not the crowds favorite:( The Philippines booth is also a crowd drawer because of a huge “It’s more fun in the Philippines” sign where everyone wants to have photos taken. I would love to see cultural presentations from the Philippines too:) or maybe I came late to witness it:(

This February 5, 2012, 360 trail runners will be joining the Columbia 5th Eco-Trail Run in the mountain barangays of Liloan, Cebu as part of a drive to promote eco-tourism in this central Philippine island province.

Columbia Eco Trail Run in Cebu

This leg has attracted the most number of participants compared to its four other legs. The first trail run was held in Family Park. The second was in Barangay Pulang Bato, Talamban, then in Barangay Napo, Guadalupe. The fourth one was in Barangay Budlaan, Talamban.

Adventure Eco Trail Run

According to race director Ralp Pilapil, the eco-trail run, which features a 10.5-kilometer route, has attracted a lot of newbies. ”There are about 108 female runners and more than half of the participants are first-timers. We are praying for good weather, so that the participants will have more fun,” Pilapil said.

He added that the participants could expect an adventure-filled run and a very challenging route especially the part where runners need to cross a river. ”In all of our trail running races, we usually include a river,” Pilapil added.

Pilapil also emphasized that this is also one way of promoting trail running in Cebu because most of the Cebuanos are into road running.

”We want to show nature’s beauty, for our participants to appreciate it. We expect the participants to be surprised. One participant checked the route and was taken with the breathtaking view,” Pilapil said.

”During the race, aside from the river crossing, participants will be passing through a small waterfall and amazing rock formations,” Pilapil said.

Posting this to help my friends in Jamaica:)

February serves as Reggae Month in Jamaica, where fans can celebrate the music at its birthplace. Throughout the month a range of reggae-focused activities are held across the island with many of the events taking place in the capital city of Kingston. This year’s Reggae Month will commemorate the island’s 50th Anniversary of Independence with the theme “Reggae 50 – Jamaica’s Heart and Soul.”

Bob Marley Tribute Photo courtesy of http://en.wikipedia.org

Jamaica’s Reggae Month activities are organized by the Jamaica Reggae Industry Association (JaRIA) and include a signature “Reggae Night” series. Reggae Nights are held every Wednesday in February at Kingston’s amphitheatre located at the Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts. These special evenings comprise of a range of music including classical, jazz, mento and ska, a genre that has been made popular by artists such as No Doubt and the late Amy Winehouse. Reggae Night activities include performances by the Jamaica Symphony Orchestra, Gilzene & the Blue Light Mento Band, Maurice Gordon, and more.

“With the various events being held throughout the month, reggae fans will be able to celebrate the life and music of reggae legends such as Bob Marley, Dennis Brown, Peter Tosh and Gregory Isaacs,” said Jamaica’s Director of Tourism John Lynch. “Reggae is performed around the world; however, Jamaica is where true reggae is experienced.”

Jamaica’s Reggae Month activities will include the following:

The Trench Town Festival, February 3 – 6
Trench Town, a Kingston neighborhood known as “The Motown of Jamaica,” was home to Bob Marley for much of his life and will be the site for a number of Reggae Month activities. Slated for February 3 – 6, the Trench Town Festival will include activities such as the “Trod the trod Bob trod” Fun Run, a Dancehall Night concert, Kid Fun Day, the Mr. & Mrs. Trench Town Pageant, a celebratory church service, and sporting activities.

Bob Marley Birthday Concert, February 5
Bob Marley fans will be treated to a “Bob Marley Birthday Concert” on February 5 at Emancipation Park in Kingston, followed by “After Dinner Sundayz” from 5 p.m. – midnight. This will be held at Tuff Gong International and will include live music by Zion Train Int’l.

Bob Marley Museum Cake Cutting, February 6
The Bob Marley Museum in Kingston will hold a special cake cutting ceremony on Bob Marley’s birthday, February 6. Following the ceremony, the museum will host an honorary “Birthday Jam Session” from 6 p.m. – midnight.

Best Of The Reggae Film Festival, February 18
The Jamaica Film Academy will host a screening of the “Best Of The Reggae Film Festival 2011,” highlighting several aspects of Jamaica’s Reggae culture through feature, documentary, short, and animated films. This preview precedes the 2012 Jamaica Reggae Film Festival, which will be held in Kingston from April 17 – 21. The film festival also includes the yearly “Make A Film in 24 Hours” competition, which is held to provide a platform for aspiring Jamaican film makers. Visit reggaefilmfestival.com/ for more information.

Bob Marley Public Lectures
There are several Reggae Month lectures being held to celebrate the life of Bob Marley, including a Public Lecture on the Life and Works of Bob Marley at the Multipurpose Community Centre in Kingston on February 6. Additionally, the University of the West Indies will hold a special Bob Marley Lecture at the Institute of Caribbean Studies in Kingston on February 16.

Football Match
A special Bob Marley “One Love” Football Match will be held on February 22, to honor Marley’s love for the sport. The game will be held at Constant Spring Football Field in Kingston.
