In fact, you are lucky because this is one of the most interesting airports in the world so there is no reason to be bored or bummed out as you wait. For those with work to do, Changi offers full service business centers, free WiFi and more than 550 free Internet terminals.

Transit Duty Free Shopping in Changi Airport

If you’d prefer to relax and watch some television, you will find lounges with multiple TV stations including Bloomberg, CNN, and Sports. Free of charge.

Entertainment Deck

If your cellphone battery is running low, don’t worry – there are free mobile charging stations throughout the airport. That’s not all though. The airport also offers free gaming. You can play Xbox, PS3, or LAN games for free.

Rooftop Swimming Pool

Maybe you want to watch a film. Changi has movie theaters! One of these is the 3D Experience Zone! Awesome. But, if you are more interested in the arts, there is an art gallery too. This is less like an airport than a resort. Remember back when you were happy with plastic seats and a snack bar?

Play area

And, of course there is plenty of shopping. Don’t worry, there are many more options than just the duty free. In fact, Changi has more entertainment options than most cities do. A rooftop swimming pool, butterfly and sunflower gardens, orchid gardens, and a specialized viewing gallery for watching planes land and take off.

It just gets better and better. You can take a nap in specialized snooze chairs or even get a massage! The ladies can get hair and body treatments while the kids have fun in the play-zones or the woodblock rubbing stations and Dad can have a drink in the lounges with his own bottle and the cocktails made by a professional.

Of course, all that fun might make you hungry or thirsty. Don’t worry, more than a hundred and thirty food and drink venues await you. Live music rounds out the fun.

Never mind the flight. Singapore is my next vacation destination.

Asia and the Pacific region are filled with new budget airlines, but the honor of the third best budget airline was reserved for the Philippines own Cebu Pacific. Cebu Pacific is the largest national Philippines airline (in the lingo ‘flag carrier’) and the readers of Smart Travel Asia voted it in the top tier of the rankings for 2011 in the Best in Travel Poll.

Cebu Pacific Budget Airline

The 3rd seat is an improvement over last year when Cebu Pacific was ranked 4th by the same reader survey. In this year’s poll, Cebu Pacific bested SpiceJet, IndiGo and Tiger Airways. Smart Travel Asia, which for those who aren’t familiar is the regions largest online magazine with more than one million readers holds the annual poll to see what people’s experience with travel in Asia is and how it ranks. According to the magazine, it’s readers selected from thousands of possible choices in Asia and the poll is “based on substantial hands-on travel experience, word-of-mouth at dinnertime chats, as well as an idea of the brand drawn from advertising and editorial exposure in the media, a great deal of this online.”

The poll was taken over three months. Demographics for those who participated showed that they took approximately 15.75 flights over the previous year and showed household incomes $150,000. Those polled were primarily in the Asia Pacific region (60%) but with substantial percentages of 20% each from the USA or the UK and Europe.

When asked how they felt about the prestigious honor, Cebu Pacific’s vice president for marketing and distribution – Candice Iyog said that winning the award feels great since it means that the hard work they are doing is being recognized by those who travel. “Recognition from the online global travel community inspires us to continue doing what we do best: offer the lowest year-round fares, most extensive route network, and service with a smile.”

Iyog said that Cebu Pacific will be at the Philippine Travel Mart at the SMX Convention Center and elsewhere in the Philippines offering the ‘ lowest fares in all the markets we fly to.’

Cebu Pacific has a young fleet that averages 3.5 years and consists of 10 Airus 319, 15 Airbus A320′s, and 8 ATR-72 500′s. Over the next decade they will upgrade the fleet (which is already one of the most modern in the world) with 23 new Airbus A320′s, 30 Airbus A 321′s, and several aircraft on operating leases. Looks like Cebu Pacific wants to keep moving up the ranks!

South East Asian Airlines (SEAIR) recently announced that it will launch its first domestic jet services from Manila to Cebu on July 1, 2011 and Manila to Davao on July 2 as part of the SEAIR-Tiger Airways Partner Airline Programme.

Beaches in Cebu

Special starting fare offers will be for as low as 499 PHP one-way to/from Cebu for travel on July 1 to October 29, 2011, and 999 PHP one-way to/from Davao for travel on July 2 to October 29, 2011. Passengers can now buy tickets online at FlySeair.com and tigerairways.com, or call +63 2 849 0100, the SEAIR Hotline for domestic and international flights.

SEAIR will have up to 10 daily flights to and from Cebu and up to six daily flights to and from Davao from its jet operations base at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) domestic terminal.

Cebu and Davao are the major tourist gateways in the Philippines for Visayas and Mindanao, respectively. Cebu, the “Queen City of the South”, also known locally as Sugbo, is the capital city of the island of Cebu and the oldest city in the country. Its popular tourist attractions include the Magellan’s Cross Shrine, an important historical landmark that signalled the beginning of the Spanish occupation in the Philippines, and the Basilica Minore del Santo Niño (Minor Basilica of the Santo Niño), which houses the Santo Niño de Cebú (Holy Child of Cebu), the oldest Catholic relic in the Philippines.

Pearl Farm in Samal Island

Apart from exploring the Spanish side of Cebu, nature-loving travellers can discover rich marine life at scuba diving spots in Moalbal, Malapascua, and Pescador Island, or hop on a ferry to its island neighbors, Bohol and Negros, for dive safaris in Cabilao and Apo Island.

The largest city in the country and the premier hub of Mindanao, Davao is home to some of the country’s top beach and mountain resorts, most notably the Pearl Farm in the secluded island of Samal, just 45 minutes off the coast of the city. Adventure-seekers can sign up for a two-day climb at Mount Apo, the Philippines’ tallest mountain at 9,692 ft located just 40 km northeast of Davao, or sample durian, “the king of fruits”, which, due to its unusual flavor and odor, have aroused intense passion in some and dislike in others. The annual week-long Kadayawan Festival in August, the biggest of its kind in Mindanao, is celebrated during the peak season of durian and mangosteen (another fruit) as a thanksgiving celebration for the bountiful harvest of flowers and fruits that Davao is known for.

The Cebu and Davao flights are the first domestic flights under the SEAIR-Tiger Airways Partner Airline Programme, which allows SEAIR to distribute its seats through the established online booking system, www.tigerairways.com. SEAIR is the first Tiger Airways Partner Airline in the Asia Pacific region.

“SEAIR’s great value fares and this expanded network will offer travellers even more value-for-money destinations to choose from, together with worry-free bookings. The introduction of high frequency domestic jet routes will also drive the creation of new jobs as well boost tourism across the Philippines,” said SEAIR President and CEO Avelino Zapanta.

SEAIR is the second oldest airline in the country. It has the reputation of having pioneered commercial flights to the country’s fastest growing tourist destinations including Boracay, Batanes, and northern Palawan. Now on its 16th year of operation, it has expanded its reach regionally with jet services to Singapore, Hong Kong, and Macau. For more information on SEAIR, please visit www.FlySeair.com.
